App Development Course WebPage

This course introduces the fundamentals of computer programming and robotics engineering to students interested in Computer Science. By recently becoming part of the STEM program, Computer Science became one of the most vital aspects of STEM education. A computer coding program offers an opportunity to explore the cyber realm of computers and microprocessors through the use of coding skills. In this program, students will learn about the need for programming, computer hardware programming, App and Game Development, Automation, and Robotics. Moreover, the jobs requiring advanced computational skills and programming are becoming more and more popular with every passing day, especially with the advancements in data science with the artificial intelligence and computer engineering widely used today in self-driving cars, drones, etc.

Course Contents:

App Creators Unit 1: Let’s Create an App:

For many years, technology has been changing the way we live. From the creation of personal
computers and cell phones to the rise of the internet, technology has transformed our lives and
connected people across the globe. One of the most innovative advancements was the creation
of mobile devices. The use of tablets and cell phones has revolutionized the way we live, work,
learn, play, and communicate. We can get so much done with just the click of a button on our
handheld devices!
Students will learn about the basics of all mobile applications and how programming changed
the way computer technology is used today

App Creators Unit 2: Taking it to the Next Level:

Imagine baking cupcakes for everyone in your school. What if the recipe called for 200 eggs and
listed, “Crack an egg and add to the batter” 200 times? Not only would it be a long recipe, but
you might lose count and would have to start over.
In computer science, programs may have thousands of lines of the same, repetitive code.
Computer scientists use many strategies to reduce the amount of redundancy to shorten the
code and make it easier to read and understand.
In this unit, students will explore those strategies, and learn how to use Functions and Variables.

App Creators Unit 3: The App Challenge:

A local computer technology organization is interested in creating an educational outreach
program that teaches people how mobile apps can be used to solve real-life problems that are
important to individuals, their families, and their communities. They need your help to create
apps that they can use as examples.
In this unit, you will start designing and programming your Android mobile applications that
interact with the environment, and help solve real world problems.
